Crows

The Whitworth Art Gallery recently acquired two crows by Ruby Chishti for its collection of textile art. For some time the Gallery has been acquiring, with the assistance of Professor Anne Morrell, modern and contemporary textiles from South Asia which complement its important holdings of historic textiles from that area, but Chishti's crows are the first example of work from the area that grows out of the textile traditions there and yet speaks with an international voice. It is a unique example of more expressive work from South Asia. There are no immediate plans to put the work on display but they can be viewed by appointment through the Gallery's Study Room.
