Editor's Letter

We hope that you will notice some positive changes to our look throughout this issue. We've decided to give more space to those events and commissions on which textile artists work so hard in our new section of short features at the front of the magazine. After all, if Embroidery magazine won't celebrate these hard-won achievements, who will? There's no need to revisit the ever present debate as to why textiles as an art form is so often marginalised. We'd rather use our voice to showcase what you, our readers, can and do accomplish, so please do let us know about your commissions and exhibitions. We know of many textile artists and makers whose work has been picked up on after a curator or tutor saw it on our pages. And I meet many curators and gallery owners who, having staged a textile exhibition for the first time, can't believe the numbers of enthusiastic and knowledgeable visitors they receive - many of whom are our readers. We do hope that you enjoy this issue and we would love to hear from you with your ideas and suggestions as to how we can continue to develop Embroidery on your behalf in the future.
