To celebrate the opening of The World of Embroidery exhibition at Voirrey Embroidery Centre, we have lined up a very special evening of entertainment at Hulme Hall, Port Sunlight, Wirral, Merseyside, on Saturday 2nd October. Our speakers will be Deirdre Hawken, with an interactive dialogue entitled 'Talking Heads', and Liz Harding, who will be speaking on 'Words for Embroidery'. Deirdre is one of our top embroiderers whose work has been featured in TV, theatre and ballet. She has just received a major award (more on this in the magazine). Liz Harding teaches the diploma course at Gloscat and is a member of one of our top exhibiting groups, Brunel Broderers. Her work is much admired and widely collected. New work by both these artists can be seen in the exhibition.
In addition to our speakers, we will have the Embroiderers' Guild Bookshop, the Computer Textile Design Group, Fron Isaf and Voirrey Embroidery. Keep your ticket as it will admit you to Voirrey Embroidery Centre from 12 noon next day (Sunday) for the private view of Textiles 21 and to meet the exhibitors: Rachael Howard, Ann McTavish, Deirdre and Liz.
The Textiles 21 exhibitors are: Liz Ashurst, Cheryl Bridgart (Australia), Freda Brierley (New Zealand), Lucy Brown, Vivienne Brown, Frankie Creith (Ireland), Ing Flint (Australia), Liz Harding, Sue Harrison, Deirdre Hawken, Margi Hennen (Canada), Cindy Hickok (USA), Rachael Howard, Amanda Jones (Canada), Alice Kettle, Alison King (Scotland), Sue Macarthur, Ann McTavish, Carol Naylor, Samiah Saaed (Pakistan), Gabriella Verstraeten (Australia).
