Disappointed by Design

January 2002

I was dismayed to see the architect's design for the new International Centre for Embroidery proposed for Manchester (September issue, page 268). Surely a Guild that produces, cares for and promotes such exquisite work needs something far better than this for its headquarters? The drawing shows what would clearly be a very drab and ill-proportioned building. The Guild deserves a decent design. I hope that for everyone's sake you will seek a more imaginative and caring architect.

Ed: I understand this is just one of several initial designs, and does not represent the final design.
