Flower Power

I was very interested in your article 'Flower Power' (May 2003). The wonderful jacket by Hussein Chalayan was made of paper treated so that it would not tear. I am intrigued by this treatment. Do you know any more about it?

Annette Wain

Ed: Grethe Wittrock of Denmark exhibited paper clothing alongside Hussein Chalayan's jacket at the Science Museum in 1997. As far as she remembers the jacket was made of Tyvek, a synthetic paper originally developed by Dupont for protective clothing. It is a non-woven material, which is strong enough to be washed.
