I have written to the National Trust with a suggestion, and would be interested to hear if other readers have alternative ideas for dealing with the frustrations of not being allowed to photograph inside NT properties. I am aware that it is sometimes possible to obtain written permission to photograph, but this is not always convenient.
As an Art Textile teacher and a member of the NT, I am frequently disappointed at the lack of quality photographic reproductions of the many superb pattern, colour and texture resources to be found on NT properties. I understand the reasons for prohibiting photography, but it does leave me feeling rather 'denied'. I understand also the limits imposed by the economics of mass-producing postcards.
I suggest that the NT would find a market for packs of colour photographs featuring detailed images taken from NT properties with particular colour, textural or pattern qualities. N. E. S. Arnold Educational Suppliers produce similar packs that retail at £11.00 each. I am convinced an NT version would be a great success.

I too feel frustrated that the National Trust will not allow photographs. I have filled in several forms saying just that! I have also said that if they took photographs themselves, they only need use the flash once. From there on they could just use the negatives to print out more photos or postcards! I have never had a reply to this suggestion though!
