I feel that the new-look Embroidery is inspiring and exciting. We need to have our ideas and boundaries challenged at times; embroidery, as much as any other art or craft, is changing constantly.
To those who desire something more traditional: don't forget that what is now regarded as 'traditional' was not always seen so. Nothing ever remains the same, and it would be boring and turgid if it did. Moreover there are plenty of magazines dealing with one aspect of Embroidery and little else, which is fine for those who enjoy that.
Embroidery should be, and is, at the forefront of all that embroidery encompasses and more. We might not always agree with what we read; we might not like it or wish to pursue certain lines of development in the craft, but that shouldn't be a problem. We are all able to make choices, judgements and decisions about what we see, read or do. That is not elitism. It is learning.
